Dear Family and Friends:

In November 2010, I accomplished my long time goal of running the NYC Marathon.  I did this in honor of my father, David, who passed away on September 23, 2010.  Through generous donations from family and friends, I was also able to raise $34,000 for The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (“AFTD”).  That $34,000 turned into $102,000 after being combined with a 2:1 match from the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation.

The marathon was supposed to be a one-time thing, but I enjoyed the experience so much that I am going to try to make running a marathon at least a once a year event (as long as my knees hold up).  As a matter of fact, I ran a marathon this past July in Vermont – it was a beautiful run but the heat and the hills were tough!  Still, I managed to complete it and I am now training for the Philadelphia marathon on November 20.

Once again, I am raising money for AFTD, a most worthwhile cause – and once again, the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation will match $2 for every $1 that you contribute.  AFTD is a non-profit organization whose mission, among other things, is to promote and fund research into finding the cause, therapies, and cures for the frontotemporal dementias as well as to provide information, education and support to persons diagnosed with frontotemporal dementias, their families and caregivers.
